ICO Guidelines for safe disclosure

Updated: Feb 17

In previous months, we have discussed the reporting requirements for the gender pay gap and the Modern Slavery Act.

However, both these and other reporting requirements, including Freedom of Information requests and environmental information requests, have raised the issue amongst concerned employers that their obligations will be in conflict with other requirements on the protection of confidential information.

The Information Commissioner’s Office has now published guidance on how to disclose information safely. This can be done by removing any personal data before the information is published or disclosed.

The guidance also includes information about the current legal requirements, data and software, datasets, formats, hidden data, ineffective redaction, photography and video.
