Stress in the workplace

Updated: Feb 16

In the UK, the number of cases of work- related stress, depression or anxiety in 2015/16 alone was 488,000, a prevalence rate of 1,510 per 100,000 workers. The number of new cases was 224,000, an incidence rate of 690 per 100,000 workers.

Some stress is good for us but if it gets too much, it can really affect our work and family life as well as our physical health. If employees are suffering from stress, what steps can be taken to ensure that the workplace becomes happier and healthier?

At rradar, we’ve come up with a new initiative which we call: ‘The Jar of Happiness’

It’s a fun way to put a smile on someone’s face and show appreciation for the hard work that they do. If employees wish to, they can write down a compliment or simply something nice about one (or as many as they choose) of their colleagues and put it in the jar.

Did someone lend you their favorite stapler? That’s nice. Did someone give you some life changing advice? That’s nice. Did someone NOT ruin the ending of the last Game of Thrones episode for you? That’s nice!

Why not let them know about it!

We think that this is a really simple but workable idea, and one that can be adopted by any workplace.
